About

The Ohio Safe Routes Network is part of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, fast-growing network of hundreds of organizations, government agencies and professional groups working to set goals, share best practices, leverage infrastructure and program funding and advance policy change to help agencies that implement Safe Routes to School programs. To learn more about the National Partnership, click here.

The Ohio Safe Routes Network started as part of a seven state network project initiated with funds from the Robert Wood Johnston Foundation  to advance state-level policy reform in seven states (CAFLMSNCNJOHand TN), which will result in the award and obligation of federal transportation funds, street-scale improvements and shared-use agreements.

The Ohio Safe Routes Network currently has over 550 individual members from multiple sectors of our community – transportation, health, education, advocacy, and state, regional and local government among others. Our action teams work to advance objectives to meet goals in Ohio’s Plan to Prevent and Reduce Chronic Disease, and the Ohio Safe Routes Action Plan (oh-action-plan-2015-12_31_14). We share ideas, resources and opportunities through team meetings, network meetings, regional meetings, enewsletters, social media, and provide technical assistance to communities and members on Safe Routes to School, active transportation, complete streets policy, shared use policy and agreements, school siting issues and equity related to transportation and physical activity opportunities.
